According to available information, the incident reportedly took place on April 2. A dance group from Arunachal Pradesh had traveled to Patna in connection with a program. While the team was resting in the railway waiting hall, an attendant present at the location allegedly stopped them from using the public washroom. The situation escalated when they were asked to provide proof of being Indian citizens in order to access the facility. This demand to prove their nationality on their own land caused deep mental distress to the young women.
The viral video further shows that when members of the dance team protested against this discrimination, another woman present at the scene launched a racial attack against them. Smiling throughout, she repeatedly addressed the young women with derogatory terms such as “momo,” “chinky,” and “Chinese.” The video clearly captures the Northeast women questioning, “How can you behave like this with us while living in India? People like you bring a bad name to the country.” However, the accused woman remained unaffected and continued to mock them. She even remarked, “Momo is my favorite dish.”
One of the victims recorded the entire incident on video. She stated that they travel from the Northeast to different parts of the country to promote art and culture, but such incidents leave them fearful. She questioned whether it is right to alienate an Indian within their own country based on appearance and food habits.
What has further intensified concerns is that the incident occurred in a public space such as a station परिसर and waiting hall, where several people were present. Despite this, many r
emained mere spectators, and no one stepped forward to support the young women.
Several days after the incident, no official statement has been issued by the local police or railway administration. As a result, social media users have been actively tagging Bihar Police and the Railways Ministry, demanding strict action against the accused woman and the attendant involved.
The incident has once again raised serious questions about the safety of Northeast citizens and the level of sensitivity towards them in different parts of the country, highlighting an urgent need for accountability and systemic response.
