Five people were killed and one person was critically injured after a man allegedly opened fire at Hotel Bilas Inn in Guwahati on Monday, with police identifying a dispute over the hotel's lease agreement as the suspected motive behind the shooting. The investigation is continuing, with police questioning the accused and examining the circumstances surrounding the dispute. Further details about the sequence of events are awaited.

Meanwhile, Assam State Congress president Gaurav Gogoi expressed grief over the incident and raised concerns about the law and order situation in Guwahati.

"Deeply saddened by the tragic firing incident at Ulubari Hotel Bilas Inn, Guwahati, in which five people have reportedly lost their lives. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families," the Jorhat MP said in a social media post.
