Arshdeep Singh Eyes T20I World Record Against New Zealand in Third Match
Arshdeep Singh is closing in on a T20 International world record ahead of the third match against New Zealand. With 38 wickets in 2026, can the Indian pacer surpass Joshua Little's long-standing milestone?
Arshdeep Singh Targets T20I World Record
In 2022, Irish fast bowler Joshua Little made headlines with his impressive performances in T20 International cricket. He claimed 39 wickets in 26 matches, setting the record for the most wickets taken by a bowler from a Full Member nation in a calendar year.
Arshdeep is now closing in on that milestone. If he takes one wicket against New Zealand in the third T20I, he will equal Little's record. Two wickets would take him past the Irish bowler and place him at the top of the list.
The year 2026 has been particularly memorable for Arshdeep Singh's career. He has taken 38 wickets in 29 T20 International matches so far this year, relying on his swing bowling and accurate yorkers to trouble batters. With these performances, he has already become India's leading wicket-taker in T20 Internationals in a single calendar year. He now has his sights set on the wider world record.
Arshdeep Singh Breaks Bhuvneshwar Kumar's Record
Arshdeep also achieved a significant milestone in the second T20I against New Zealand. Taking two wickets in that match, he broke the four-year-old record held by former Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Bhuvneshwar had recorded the highest number of T20 International wickets for India in a calendar year in 2022. Arshdeep's performance against New Zealand helped him surpass that mark, strengthening his position as India's leading wicket-taker in the format for 2026.
With 38 wickets already to his name this year, Arshdeep needs just two more in the third T20I to move beyond Joshua Little's benchmark of 39 wickets. The match therefore presents him with an opportunity to establish a new calendar-year record among bowlers representing Full Member nations in T20 International cricket.
