Madhya Pradesh Kamdhenu Scheme: Get Up to 33% Subsidy to Start a Dairy Farm
Madhya Pradesh's Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana offers eligible dairy entrepreneurs subsidies of up to 33%, bank loans and training. Find out the land requirements, dairy unit limits and how to apply online.
The scheme is aimed at people who want to enter the dairy business but are unable to move forward because of a lack of funds. Under the scheme, applicants can establish dairy units with a specified number of milch animals and access bank loans to arrange the remaining investment.
According to the Madhya Pradesh Animal Husbandry Department, each dairy unit under the Kamdhenu Yojana can accommodate 25 milch animals, including cows or buffaloes. Those planning to establish a larger dairy business can set up a maximum of eight units, allowing them to operate a dairy farm with up to 200 animals. However, all animals within a single unit must belong to the same breed to facilitate their care and milk production.
How Much Subsidy Will the Government Provide?
The government will provide financial assistance to eligible applicants for setting up dairy farms. Applicants belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories can receive a subsidy of up to 33% of the total project cost. For applicants from other categories, the subsidy is capped at 25%.
The estimated cost of establishing one dairy unit is approximately Rs 36 lakh to Rs 42 lakh. The amount of financial assistance will depend on the approved project cost and the applicant's category.
Land Requirement for the Kamdhenu Yojana
Applicants must own or have access to at least 3.50 acres of agricultural land for each dairy unit. The land can be used to accommodate animals, grow fodder and carry out other dairy-related activities.
Land jointly held in the names of family members may also be accepted. However, the consent of all relevant family members will be required in such cases.
Bank Loans to Cover the Remaining Cost
Applicants can arrange the remaining investment required to establish a dairy farm through a bank loan. Under the scheme, the loan amount will be disbursed in four stages.
In addition to financial assistance, livestock owners will receive training on dairy farm management. The training is intended to help them learn about animal care and milk production practices.
How to Apply for the Kamdhenu Yojana
Applications for the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana must be submitted online. Interested applicants can contact the Madhya Pradesh Animal Husbandry Department to obtain information about the application portal and the documents required for the process.
Livestock owners who are already supplying milk to milk unions will receive priority under the scheme. However, final selection will depend on the applicant's eligibility and compliance with the prescribed conditions.
The scheme offers eligible applicants an opportunity to establish dairy businesses with government subsidies, bank financing and training support, subject to the applicable eligibility requirements and approval process.
