Overhead Wire Fault Between Thane and Mulund Disrupts Central Railway Services
An overhead wire fault between Thane and Mulund disrupted Central Railway local and long-distance services, causing delays, cancellations and overcrowding. Officials began repairs after suspending traffic on the affected down slow line.
According to the information available, train movements had been severely disrupted for around three hours. The overhead wire fault affected local train services, while long-distance trains also experienced disruptions. Some services were reportedly operating with delays of around 30 minutes, while the railway administration cancelled certain local trains.
The railway authorities initiated repair work to resolve the technical problem and restore normal train operations as quickly as possible. Officials said the repair work had begun under the supervision of specialists. They expressed hope that the problem would be resolved within the next one to two hours.
Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Swapnil Nila issued a statement regarding the incident. He said that at around 9:23 am on Monday, an overhead wire was observed hanging over the down slow line. The location was 31.146 kilometres from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.
Following the observation, train movements on the affected line were stopped as a safety precaution. The decision was taken to prevent trains from operating on the line while the overhead equipment issue remained unresolved.
Trains Operate at Reduced Speeds
Swapnil Nila said that, in view of the situation, train speeds on the other line were reduced. This increased pressure on the main line, resulting in local train services operating with delays of 15 to 20 minutes.
The disruption caused considerable inconvenience to passengers, particularly office-goers travelling during the morning hours. With local services affected and crowds increasing at stations, commuters faced difficulties reaching their destinations on time.
He further stated that an overhead equipment block was immediately taken to facilitate repair work and address the technical problem. Railway personnel began the necessary work to resolve the fault and restore services.
The incident disrupted both suburban and long-distance rail operations, highlighting the immediate impact of an overhead equipment fault on train movements along the affected section. The restoration of normal services remained dependent on the completion of repair work and the resolution of the safety concerns on the down slow line.
