Rajasthan Gets 250 Electric Buses as Jaipur Receives 103 Under PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme
Rajasthan has received 250 of 1,150 approved electric buses under the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme, including 103 for Jaipur. Explore city-wise allocations, additional bus procurement plans, depot development and central infrastructure funding.
Of the 103 electric buses allocated to Jaipur, 58 are currently operating from the Bagrana depot. Operations from the Todi depot are expected to commence soon.
The PM e-Bus Sewa scheme aims to promote clean energy and expand urban public transport services. Initially, 675 electric buses were approved for eight cities in Rajasthan. The allocation was subsequently increased to 1,150 buses covering nine cities.
Under the revised allocation, Jaipur has been approved for 550 buses, followed by Jodhpur with 125 and Ajmer and Kota with 100 each. Bikaner has been allocated 75 buses, while Bhilwara, Alwar, Udaipur and Sikar have been approved for 50 buses each.
Procurement of Additional Electric Buses Underway
In line with the Budget announcement for 2025–26, JCTSL is undertaking the process to acquire another 450 electric buses and 50 double-decker electric buses. The additional procurement is intended to support the expansion of electric public transport services in Jaipur.
The initiative also covers the development of supporting infrastructure, including bus depots, charging stations, electrical connections and operational facilities required for running the expanding fleet.
In Jaipur, depots have been established at Bagrana, Todi Mor and Sanganer. Land has also been allocated for depot development at Ralawata near Goner, Khatwada on Ajmer Road and Achrol on Delhi Road.
The central government has approved more than ₹60 crore for charging and other electrical infrastructure at bus depots, along with more than ₹53 crore for civil infrastructure development. These allocations are intended to support the facilities required for electric bus operations.
The buses are equipped with CCTV cameras, panic buttons and other safety equipment. They are intended to serve commuters, including senior citizens, students and persons with disabilities.
With 250 buses delivered against the 1,150 approved for Rajasthan, the rollout combines fleet deployment with the development of depots and charging infrastructure. Jaipur’s allocation of 550 buses, alongside plans to procure additional standard and double-decker electric buses, forms a key part of the state’s broader effort to expand electric public transport across nine cities.
