Imran Khan Faces Fresh FRRO Notice Over OCI Card After CJP Protest
Imran Khan has received a fresh FRRO show-cause notice questioning why his OCI card should not be cancelled after the CJP protest in Mumbai. The actor has 15 days to respond as he considers legal action against the notice directing him to leave India by October 28.
According to sources, the FRRO has sought a response from Imran Khan within 15 days, asking him to explain why his OCI card should not be cancelled. The office will decide whether to revoke the card after receiving and examining his reply. The latest notice is expected to add to the actor's difficulties amid the ongoing dispute.
The controversy began after Imran Khan participated in an anti-CEC protest near August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai. He was subsequently detained, triggering a wider dispute over his participation in the demonstration. Political reactions have also emerged, with calls for the actor to be sent back to the United States on the grounds that he is an American citizen. He has also been issued a notice asking him to leave India by October 28.
Imran Khan Plans to Challenge Notice in Court
Meanwhile, Imran Khan has decided to approach the Bombay High Court against the 'leave notice' issued by the Mumbai Police. He has been accused of violating the Foreigners Act in connection with his participation in the CJP protest.
Reports have indicated that the actor is considering filing a writ petition before the Bombay High Court to challenge the notice. He has also appointed MZM Legal LLP as his legal adviser for the matter. However, no official statement regarding the proposed legal action has been issued so far.
Imran Khan had earlier clarified his reasons for attending the CJP protest, stating that he was not there to represent any political party. He said he had participated as a citizen and had gone to the protest out of a sense of humanity.
A video of the actor also surfaced after he was detained, in which he spoke about going to jail. His participation in the protest has since become the focus of the dispute, with the FRRO's latest notice placing the status of his OCI card under scrutiny.
The FRRO will determine whether the actor's OCI card should be cancelled after considering his response within the stipulated 15-day period. The development comes as he faces the separate deadline of October 28 to leave India and considers challenging the police notice before the Bombay High Court.
