Chhattisgarh has intensified preparations for paddy procurement in Kharif Marketing Year 2026-27. Food Minister Dayaldas Baghel has directed officials to address shortages, streamline token distribution and improve facilities at procurement centres.
During the meeting, Baghel directed officials to ensure that farmers encounter no difficulties at any stage, from registration and obtaining tokens to selling paddy at procurement centres. He instructed them to complete all necessary preparations well in advance and ensure that procurement centres have adequate gunny bags, electronic weighing facilities, electricity, drinking water and other essential amenities.
The departmental review meeting covered preparations for paddy procurement during the upcoming Kharif Marketing Year 2026-27, custom milling, the Public Distribution System (PDS), foodgrain storage and transportation, along with various departmental schemes and activities.
Baghel emphasised that the entire paddy procurement process must be organised, transparent and farmer-friendly. He directed officials to inspect the availability of essential resources and facilities at all procurement centres before procurement begins and address any shortcomings in advance.
The minister also stressed that farmers visiting procurement centres should not face unnecessary waiting or inconvenience. He instructed officials to maintain a smooth token system and ensure that farmers receive essential information about the procurement process on time. Officials responsible for paddy procurement were asked to regularly review preparations at their respective levels and ensure the immediate resolution of any problems.
Highlighting the importance of adequate packaging supplies, Baghel directed officials to ensure sufficient quantities of gunny bags at procurement centres, making it clear that procurement must not be disrupted due to shortages. He also instructed authorities to ensure proper electronic weighing arrangements at newly established paddy procurement centres. Electricity, drinking water and other basic facilities must be available at all centres.
The minister also reviewed the status of custom milling and directed officials to accelerate the process. He said that wherever issues related to paddy lifting or custom milling arise, officials must assess the actual situation and implement time-bound solutions.
Baghel further emphasised the need for better coordination among paddy procurement, lifting and custom milling operations to ensure that the entire system functions without disruption. The directions are aimed at completing preparations before procurement begins and ensuring that farmers can sell their produce through an orderly and accessible process during the 2026-27 Kharif Marketing Year.
