Mumbai Receive Major Boost as Suryansh Shedge Returns, Angkrish Raghuvanshi Added to Ranji Squad
On
Mumbai welcome Suryansh Shedge back and add Angkrish Raghuvanshi to their Ranji Trophy squad ahead of the Himachal Pradesh clash in Bilaspur, but injuries and Jaiswal’s India A commitments leave key selection questions.
Mumbai were forced to make changes to their squad after new vice-captain Ayush Mhatre suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury and Yashasvi Jaiswal left for India A’s tour of New Zealand. Experienced all-rounder Shardul Thakur will also miss at least the second-round fixture because of a finger injury.
Shedge is returning to the Mumbai squad after representing India A in the ODI series against Australia A in Puducherry. He scored 66 off 60 balls while batting at number seven in the third match of the series. He had also taken four wickets in the opening match, underlining his contribution with both bat and ball.
However, finding a place for Shedge in Mumbai’s playing XI could present a selection challenge. In the season opener, Musheer Khan, captain Siddhesh Lad, Sarfaraz Khan and wicketkeeper Akash Anand batted at positions three to six. All-rounder Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian and Tushar Deshpande followed them in the batting order.
Raghuvanshi has earned his place in the squad after producing innings of 201 and 203 in the Under-23 competition. He had missed Mumbai’s opening Ranji Trophy match because Jaiswal was available at the time. With Jaiswal now away on India A duty, Mumbai will have to field a new opening pair in their second-round fixture against Himachal Pradesh, which begins on Sunday in Bilaspur.
Mumbai began their Ranji Trophy season with a commanding victory over Chandigarh at Wankhede Stadium, winning by an innings and 155 runs. The match concluded in three days, earning Mumbai seven points and giving the team a strong start to the campaign.
Despite the absence of Jaiswal and Thakur, Mumbai retain considerable strength in their squad, with Sarfaraz Khan, Musheer Khan and Siddhesh Lad among the available players. IPL star Tushar Deshpande is also part of the team, while Raghuvanshi’s inclusion adds another option to the batting line-up.
The Mumbai squad comprises Siddhesh Lad (captain), Akash Anand, Sarfaraz Khan, Suved Parkar, Hardik Tamore, Atharva Ankolekar, Tanush Kotian, Shams Mulani, Musheer Khan, Mohit Avasthi, Tushar Deshpande, Omkar Tarmale, Sylvester D’Souza, Divyansh Saxena, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Suryansh Shedge.
Mumbai have long held a dominant position in the Ranji Trophy, and their opening victory has provided an encouraging start this season. The second-round clash against Himachal Pradesh will test the team’s ability to adjust to key absences while integrating returning all-rounder Shedge and promising batter Raghuvanshi into their campaign.
