Eight pilgrims were killed and six to eight others injured after a minibus travelling from Bhopal to Khatu Shyam Ji temple overturned near Karadia village on Rajasthan's Delhi-Mumbai Expressway early Saturday.
The accident occurred around 6 a.m. near Karadia village, where the vehicle overturned and became lodged in silt and water. Rescue teams launched an operation to retrieve the minibus, using cranes to pull it out and reach those trapped inside.
The rescue operation confirmed eight fatalities, while six to eight other passengers sustained injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The victims included elderly people and children travelling as pilgrims to the Khatu Shyam Ji temple.
Police suspect that the driver may have dozed off while driving, potentially causing the vehicle to overturn. The circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation, and officials are examining the incident to establish what led to the accident.
The crash has drawn attention to expressway safety concerns, particularly the risks posed by driver fatigue during long journeys. With eight people dead and several others injured, the investigation will seek to establish the precise circumstances of the accident.
