Dhruv Rathee Announces London Protest Over Alleged Vote Theft, Targets Election Irregularities
YouTuber Dhruv Rathee announces a London protest over alleged vote theft and electoral roll irregularities, urging people to gather at Parliament Square as his earlier detention ahead of a Delhi demonstration draws attention.
In a social media post, Rathee said it was time to raise the issue at the international level.
Rathee Appeals to People in London to Join Protest
Late Friday night, Rathee posted on social media platform X, confirming that he had arrived in London. He urged people in the British capital to participate in the protest scheduled for Saturday.
“If you are here, join the protest at 12 noon on Saturday in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Parliament Square,” he wrote.
In the same post, Rathee added, “It is time to make an international noise about this issue.” He concluded his message with “Jai Hind.”
Rathee’s announcement comes amid controversy surrounding a proposed demonstration by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) in Delhi and his detention by Delhi Police last week.
Dhruv Rathee Was Detained Ahead of CJP Protest
Last week, Delhi Police detained Rathee from his residence in Sector 56, Gurugram, Haryana, ahead of the CJP’s proposed protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. According to a report published by news agency PTI, citing officials, the action was taken before the planned demonstration.
Rathee was released late on Saturday night.
Police had taken preventive measures to stop protesters from gathering in the national capital. Citing security concerns and necessary procedures, Delhi Police denied permission for the demonstration. Police personnel were subsequently deployed at several key locations to prevent protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar.
The CJP had called for a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The party raised questions over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and changes related to Form 6, which is used for voter registration.
The CJP also confirmed Rathee’s detention in a post on X. The party alleged that the government was afraid of young people who were unwilling to remain silent.
Connaught Place Market Closure Announced Ahead of Protest
The proposed demonstration last week also affected the commercial district of Connaught Place in Delhi. The New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA) announced that the Connaught Place market would remain closed on Saturday.
NDTA Joint Secretary Amit Gupta said the commercial area attracts large numbers of visitors over the weekend. He explained that the decision to shut the market had been taken with public safety in mind.
With Rathee now announcing a protest at Parliament Square in London, the controversy over alleged electoral irregularities and voter-list revisions has gained an international dimension.
