Delhi Police Initiates Action Against CJP Chief Abhijit Dipke, Court Hearing Today
On
Delhi Police has initiated proceedings against CJP president Abhijit Dipke under BNSS Sections 126 and 170 after his detention during the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest, while the CJP alleges kidnapping and denial of access to lawyers.
According to ANI, proceedings have been initiated against Dipke under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). These provisions have been invoked in connection with a potential breach of peace or disturbance of public order. Delhi Police is set to produce Dipke before the SEM Court today. The court’s decision is being closely watched, particularly because Dipke was released by the court on the previous occasion on the condition that he would not disturb the peace for one year.
On the evening of October 16, AISA national president Neha Bora and activist Abhijit Dipke were taken into custody under the relevant provisions. Delhi Police said that Neha Bora was released after completing the formal procedure under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act. However, proceedings against Dipke have continued under Sections 126 and 170 of the BNSS, and he is scheduled to be produced before the court.
The legal proceedings follow Dipke’s ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest, during which police took him into custody. The case has now become a point of contention, with the CJP raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his detention and his access to legal assistance.
The CJP has levelled serious allegations against Delhi Police, claiming that Dipke was taken into custody while he was walking outside his house before heading to the protest site. The party has alleged that the police kidnapped him and took him to an undisclosed location.
In a post on X, the CJP stated that it had been unable to establish contact with Dipke and alleged that he was not being allowed to speak to his lawyers. These claims have intensified the controversy surrounding the police action.
With Delhi Police preparing to produce Dipke before the SEM Court, attention is now focused on the court’s decision and the next steps in the proceedings. The allegations made by the CJP, alongside the police action under the BNSS, have brought Dipke’s detention and the circumstances surrounding it into sharp focus.
