Mashal Programme Opens Registration to Identify Hidden Sports Talent in Government Schools
The Mashal programme is inviting government school students to register for sports competitions until October 25, offering rural talent opportunities in kabaddi, football, cycling, long jump and running through school, CRC and BRC levels.
The initiative aims to bring forward sporting talent hidden in rural communities and give students a platform to demonstrate their abilities through competitions. The registration process began on September 25 and will continue until October 25.
Under the programme, students will have the opportunity to participate in competitions including kabaddi, football, cycling, long jump, and 100-metre and 800-metre races.
The sporting activities are intended not only to improve children's physical abilities but also to develop discipline, self-confidence, team spirit and a sense of healthy competition among them.
Vikramaditya Jha and Kumar Raghav, teachers at a middle school, said the competitions would be organised in phases. The process will begin with competitions at the school level.
Participants who perform well at this stage, along with winning teams, will advance to competitions at the Cluster Resource Centre (CRC) level. Successful participants will subsequently get an opportunity to showcase their talent at the Block Resource Centre (BRC) level.
According to the teachers, the initiative will encourage children to pursue sports alongside their studies. Organising competitions from the school level to the block level will also make it easier to identify talented young athletes.
The programme is expected to help develop leadership abilities among students and strengthen their understanding of teamwork. For students in rural areas who often lack the resources and suitable platforms to demonstrate their sporting abilities, the Mashal programme could provide an important opportunity to participate in organised competitions and progress through successive levels.
