The incident has raised concerns over civic infrastructure and public safety in the city, where residents have reported repeated accidents at the same spot in recent months. According to locals, at least four similar incidents have occurred at the location, involving a woman and motorcycle riders among those affected.
The latest incident has also brought attention to the condition of roads and drainage systems in the area. Residents have reported muddy roads, piles of garbage and inadequate drainage, highlighting persistent civic problems that continue to affect daily life.
Following the incident, a junior engineer was suspended, and authorities formed a three-member committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. The inquiry is expected to examine the incident amid concerns about the recurring safety risks at the location.
The spread of the CCTV footage has intensified attention on the open drain and the reported history of accidents. The incident has also raised questions about the condition and maintenance of civic infrastructure in Panipat, a Haryana city where such problems remain a concern despite Smart City initiatives.
The rescue prevented the incident from ending in tragedy, but the reported recurrence of similar accidents underscores the need to address the safety hazards identified by residents and establish accountability through the investigation.
