Assam Class 8 Student Allegedly Gang-Raped at Guwahati Homestay, Five Detained
A Class 8 student from Assam’s Kamrup district was allegedly gang-raped by five men at a Guwahati homestay and later abandoned. Police rescued her from Panbazar and detained five suspects.
The minor girl from Pasaria village was allegedly sexually assaulted at Rangman Grand Homestay in Saukuchi. She had been missing since Sunday afternoon.
The girl was reportedly rescued in the early hours of Tuesday from the Shukleshwar Ghat area in Panbazar, Guwahati.
A youth identified as Parameswar Nath from Goalpara allegedly lured the girl from Singimari and took her to the homestay. Nath allegedly sexually assaulted the girl throughout the night before abandoning her on the roadside near Shukleshwar Ghat.
According to the allegations, Nath was accompanied by Hirkajyoti Das, Bishal Barua, Lakshidhar Nath and Rejip Ali.
Bishal Barua and Lakshidhar Nath were working at the homestay.
Dadara Police have reportedly detained all five individuals in connection with the incident.
Assam Police said that an FIR was lodged on August 23 at Dadara OP under Hajo Police Station regarding the disappearance of the minor, who had left home on her own. Accordingly, Hajo PS Case No. 413/2026 under Section 87 of the BNS was registered and an investigation was taken up.
The police said that at about 5:47 AM on August 24, information was received that the missing minor girl had been seen loitering in the Panbazar area of Guwahati. Acting promptly on the information, the In-Charge of Dadara OP, along with the girl’s family members, reached the area and safely recovered her from near the Panbazar Pani Tanki.
Based on the investigation and the statement of the recovered victim girl, Sections 6 and 17 of the POCSO Act were added, Assam Police said.
The victim has been medically examined, and her statement has been recorded before the Judicial Magistrate. SSP Kamrup, along with the Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) and Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), is personally supervising the investigation.
The police action and ongoing investigation follow the recovery of the minor and the addition of provisions under the POCSO Act to the case.
