Ranbir Kapoor Wore Rubber Slippers in Ramayana, Here’s Why They Were Removed Using VFX
Ranbir Kapoor revealed why he wore rubber slippers while shooting Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana and how DNEG will remove them through VFX, as the film’s casting and production details spark discussions.
Amid these discussions, Ranbir Kapoor recently revealed an interesting detail about the shooting of the epic film during an interview with ‘Screen Rant’. The actor disclosed that he wore rubber slippers for a significant period during filming and explained the reason behind the decision.
Ranbir Kapoor said that the detail may remain unknown to many people because it will not be visible on screen. He explained that in the story, Lord Ram’s brother takes his footwear and places it on the throne, saying that until Lord Ram returns from exile, his footwear will remain on the throne.
“Because of this, for a major part of the film, I remain barefoot. But when you perform action sequences on rough and uneven ground, it becomes extremely difficult. That is why I had to wear these slippers, which were actually rubber slippers. Since this is the work of DNEG, they can easily remove them during post-production,” Ranbir said.
The actor further explained that visual effects have made filming physically easier for actors. He said it is also beneficial from the performers’ comfort perspective because injuries can be avoided and actors can perform better stunts.
However, Ranbir added that he asked a person from DNEG about the actual difficulty involved in removing slippers from someone’s feet through visual effects and learned that it is a very challenging process.
During the same conversation, producer Namit Malhotra said that choosing Ranbir Kapoor for the role of Lord Ram was never a difficult decision for the team. He said that for both him and director Nitesh Tiwari, Ranbir playing Lord Ram felt natural from the beginning.
Namit Malhotra said, “For both of us (Nitesh and me), from the beginning, Ranbir playing the role of Lord Ram felt completely natural. He is a big star, and you know what he was doing at that time. So before thinking about a second or third option, we thought, the first option is him. Let’s see if we can get him.”
Director Nitesh Tiwari further added, “Yes, options A, B and C were all Ranbir.”
The revelations surrounding Ranbir Kapoor’s preparation and the filmmaking process have added further discussion around ‘Ramayana’, which continues to attract attention after its trailer release.
