Maharashtra Faces Severe Drought Threat as Marathwada Records Major Rainfall Deficit

Maharashtra faces a serious drought threat as Marathwada goes 50 days without satisfactory rain. The region has a 199 mm deficit, with 275 revenue circles recording extremely low rainfall.

Maharashtra has been witnessing a prolonged dry spell, with rainfall almost disappearing from the state over the past few days. The India Meteorological Department had forecast before the onset of the monsoon that the impact of El Nino would be felt this year. After El Nino becomes active, rainfall is generally below average.

Maharashtra is now facing the threat of a serious drought, leaving farmers deeply distressed. Reservoirs are drying up, while farmers are waiting for rain as the skies remain largely free of rain clouds.

The situation is particularly serious in Marathwada, where no satisfactory rainfall has been recorded for the past 50 days. The region has recorded a rainfall deficit of 199 mm, while 275 revenue circles have received extremely low rainfall. The lack of rain has created a major crisis for the ongoing kharif season.

As agriculture suffers due to the prolonged absence of rainfall, farmers are facing a serious challenge. There is also a significant disparity in rainfall across the Marathwada region.
