Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway Toll Suspended as NHAI Cracks Down on Poor Construction
NHAI has suspended toll collection on the Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway until repair work is completed after taking action over its poor condition. PNC Infratech Ltd. faces a non-performer notice, proposed penalties, and restrictions on future NHAI tenders.
NHAI stated that the financial loss resulting from the suspension of toll collection will be recovered from the concerned company. The authority also initiated action against the company, engineers, and officials held responsible for the condition of the expressway.
A technical investigation has been ordered to assess the damaged portions of the highway, while instructions have been issued to ensure that repair work is completed without delay. As part of the action, PNC Infratech Ltd. has been served with a notice declaring it a "Non-Performer."
According to the notice, the company will not be allowed to participate in any future NHAI tenders. In addition, the process has been initiated to impose a penalty equivalent to 2 percent of the performance security and to ban the responsible officials for three years.
NHAI made it clear that substandard construction work will not be tolerated under any circumstances, underscoring its decision to suspend toll collection until the Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway is fully repaired.
