India Lodges Strong Protest with Iran After Deadly Attacks on Merchant Vessels in Strait of Hormuz Kill One Indian Seafarer

India strongly condemned the attacks on merchant vessels MT Al Bahiyah and MT Mombasa in the Strait of Hormuz after one Indian seafarer was killed and 10 others were injured. The Ministry of External Affairs summoned the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Iran, lodged a strong protest, and called for an immediate end to violence and a return to diplomacy in West Asia.

India on Tuesday strongly condemned the attacks on two merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz that left one Indian national dead and 10 others injured, describing the incidents as unacceptable acts of violence against seafarers and a threat to the safety of international maritime navigation.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Iran earlier in the day and lodged a strong protest over the attacks. The government expressed deep concern over the incidents involving the merchant vessels MT Al Bahiyah and MT Mombasa during their transit through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

According to the MEA, the two vessels together carried 46 crew members, including 30 Indian seafarers. Of the 12 Indian nationals aboard MT Al Bahiyah, one tragically lost his life while another sustained injuries.

The ministry further stated that 18 Indian nationals were serving aboard MT Mombasa. Of them, nine suffered injuries in the attack, including two who have been reported to be seriously injured.

In its official statement, the MEA said India strongly condemns the attacks and denounces all acts of violence targeting seafarers and disrupting free and safe navigation through international waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz. The government emphasized that the security of merchant vessels and the safety of maritime personnel must be protected at all times.

India also reiterated its deep concern over the resumption of attacks and the escalating hostilities across the West Asian region. The MEA called for an immediate cessation of violence and urged all parties to return to dialogue and diplomacy in the interest of regional stability and lasting peace.

The attacks have intensified concerns over the security of one of the world's most critical maritime trade routes, while highlighting the growing risks faced by Indian seafarers operating in conflict-affected waters.
