Viral Video Claims Elderly Pensioner’s Bank Account Shows Over Rs 759 Crore Balance, Raising Questions Over Authenticity and Privacy
A viral video claims elderly pensioner Ramchandra Verma had a bank balance exceeding Rs 759 crore after visiting a public service centre to withdraw his Rs 1,100 pension. The claim has sparked questions over possible technical errors, authenticity, privacy risks and the unauthorised sharing of personal financial details.
According to the claim circulating online, the operator at the service centre noticed that the account displayed a balance exceeding Rs 759.59 crore during the transaction. A recording of the screen was subsequently made and shared on social media, where it quickly gained significant attention.
However, as the video spread widely, questions regarding its authenticity also increased. Several users questioned whether the extraordinary balance shown on the screen was genuine or the result of a technical malfunction.
Some social media users pointed out that browser developer tools can be used to modify webpage appearances, making it possible to create misleading screenshots and videos showing incorrect account balances. Others urged restraint, stating that conclusions should not be drawn without official verification.

"If the claim is true, it deserves a thorough investigation. If it is a technical glitch, that should also be established," one user wrote, reflecting concerns raised by many online users.
The controversy has also shifted attention towards the privacy concerns surrounding the incident. Several users criticised the recording and public sharing of the elderly man's face, identity and financial information. They argued that revealing personal banking details of a private individual, particularly an elderly pensioner, could create security and privacy risks.
Some users also demanded action against the service centre operator, stating that customer information should not be recorded or shared without consent, regardless of how unusual the transaction appeared.
At present, there is no official confirmation that the displayed bank balance was genuine. No authority has publicly clarified whether the figure was caused by a banking error, a software-related issue or any other technical reason.
The incident has highlighted the importance of verifying unusual digital financial claims before sharing them publicly, while also raising serious questions about the protection of personal information during online transactions.
