Pachna Dam Dispute Resolved After Three-Day Protest Ends, Routes Restored in Karauli's Hindaun City
The Pachna Dam water release dispute in Karauli's Hindaun City has been resolved after three days of protests. Following government and administrative negotiations, road blockades were removed, routes reopened, and normal life began returning to the region. Internet services remain suspended as authorities monitor social media activity and maintain law and order.
The Hindaun-Gangapur, Hindaun-Karauli, and Hindaun-Mahwa routes have started functioning again after the resolution of the protest. However, as a precautionary measure, internet services remain suspended in the affected areas from midnight.
Internet services were suspended after offensive comments were circulated on social media following the Pachna Dam dispute. The Administration is continuously monitoring the situation. The suspension order will remain effective until midnight on the scheduled date. Bharatpur Divisional Commissioner Nalini Kathotia issued the order to control the spread of rumours and prevent inappropriate remarks on social media platforms.
Internet services have also been suspended in Wazirpur, Gangapur City, and Bamanwas Tehsil areas since midnight. The Administration stated that the decision was taken in view of concerns related to misinformation and inflammatory content on social media.
After an entire night of efforts to find a solution, normal activities began resuming in the morning. Road blockades were removed, traffic movement restarted, and public life gradually returned to normal. The dispute was related to the opening of Pachna Dam water into canals serving the command area, which had led to protests and demonstrations by farmers.
A crucial meeting was held throughout the night at the Gangapur City Mini Secretariat, after which a positive development emerged. Agriculture Minister Dr. Kirodilal Meena and Water Resources Minister Suresh Singh Rawat held discussions with the protesting groups and worked towards resolving the issue.
The meeting was attended by Government Secretary Krishna Kunal, Additional Director General of Police Biju George Joseph, Divisional Commissioner Nalini Kathotia, Inspector General Kailash Chand Bishnoi, Collector Kanaram, and Superintendent of Police Jyestha Maitreyi.
Farmer representatives from Kunsay and Todupura areas, where protests were underway, also participated in the discussions. The challenges arising after the opening of dam gates were explained to the farmers, along with details of the ongoing large-scale repair work being carried out on the gates.
Following the discussions, the protesting farmers expressed satisfaction with the response from the Government and Administration. Early in the morning, both ministers reached the blockade site, after which the road blockade was removed and traffic movement was restored.
The resolution of the Pachna Dam dispute has brought relief to the region after days of tension, with coordinated efforts by the Government, Administration, Police, and farmer representatives leading to restoration of normalcy
