Railway authorities swiftly coordinated with Rangiya Control, Commercial, and Medical Departments to arrange urgent medical intervention. A specialised medical team led by Dr Sarat Chandra, Divisional Medical Officer of Rangiya Division, was mobilised and reached Rangiya station ahead of the train’s arrival to ensure readiness for emergency care.
During the critical situation onboard, assistance was provided by the train’s coach attendant along with Krishnama Goldsmith Bezbaruah, a nurse from Jorhat Christian Mission Hospital who was travelling on the same train. With their support, the woman successfully delivered a premature baby onboard the moving train.
After the train reached Rangiya, the mother and newborn were immediately attended to by the waiting medical team and shifted to Rangiya Railway Hospital for urgent medical care. Considering the premature birth, both were subsequently transferred by railway ambulance to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for specialised treatment and continuous observation. Railway officials confirmed that both mother and child remained stable.
The Northeast Frontier Railway commended the prompt and coordinated response of its staff and specifically acknowledged the crucial role played by Krishnama Goldsmith Bezbaruah during the emergency medical situation.
Officials stated that the incident underscores the critical importance of well-coordinated emergency response systems in safeguarding passengers and ensuring timely medical intervention during unforeseen incidents on board trains.
