According to Shivanii, the driver later insisted on an extra ₹40 in cash for toll charges after the trip had been completed. The situation intensified when she refused the demand. She alleged that the driver locked her inside the vehicle, creating a coercive and alarming situation.
The confrontation turned physical when Shivanii pushed the driver away in an attempt to defend herself, following which he allegedly slapped her and issued further threats of violence. The incident reportedly caused panic and drew immediate attention from her colleagues, who, along with police personnel, later intervened to manage the situation.
Following the incident, the Nerul Police Station registered a non-cognizable complaint against the driver, initiating preliminary documentation of the case. No further escalation into a formal cognizable offence has been reported at this stage.
Uber issued a formal condemnation of the driver’s conduct and confirmed that the driver had been barred from operating in the concerned passenger’s area. The company also stated its cooperation with law enforcement authorities during the inquiry. However, Shivanii noted that her own account on the platform was briefly blocked in the aftermath of the incident.
Eyewitness accounts reportedly support Shivanii’s version of events. The resurfacing of the video related to the incident has reignited public concern, with multiple users drawing parallels to similar disputes involving ride-hailing services and raising broader questions about passenger safety, particularly for women.
