Balu Forge Secures Major Defence Order for 30,000 Artillery Shells, Expands Presence in Large-Calibre Ammunition Segment

Balu Forge Industries Ltd has secured a major contract to supply 30,000 units of 152 mm artillery shells to a leading Indian energetics company. The order, scheduled for delivery from June 2026, strengthens the company's defence manufacturing presence, supports production expansion in Belgaum, and reinforces its global ambitions through NATO-certified capabilities.

 

Balu Forge Industries Ltd has secured a significant contract in the large-calibre ammunition segment, marking a major advancement in its growing presence within India's defence manufacturing sector. The precision engineering and manufacturing company has received an initial order to supply 30,000 units of 152 mm artillery shells to a leading Indian energetics company, strengthening its position in the domestic defence ecosystem.

The company announced that supplies under the strategic contract will commence in June 2026. The order represents a crucial milestone for Balu Forge as it continues to expand its defence manufacturing capabilities and strengthen partnerships within the sector.

According to the company, the initial contract is expected to serve as the foundation for a long-term collaboration. The order volume is projected to increase to more than 100,000 shells through the addition of multiple variants, reflecting growing demand and confidence in the company's manufacturing capabilities. The agreement also provides for the future integration of additional ammunition variants into the production pipeline, enabling Balu Forge to address evolving artillery requirements.

The contract will be executed through the company's fully automated empty shell production line at its greenfield manufacturing facility in Belgaum, Karnataka. Built entirely with indigenous technology, the production line operates through advanced robotics and an unmanned forging system designed to deliver high levels of precision, speed, and manufacturing efficiency.

In a strategic move to enhance its role across the defence value chain, Balu Forge is pursuing forward integration through its subsidiary, Quantum Energetics. The initiative focuses on advanced energetics and defence materials, enabling the company to extend beyond the production of precision empty shell bodies and participate in advanced ammunition development and filling technologies.
