Sonam Wangchuk Backs Youth Campaign Seeking Education Minister’s Resignation Amid Examination Controversies

The demand comes in the wake of a major controversy surrounding the NEET-UG examination, which affects approximately 2.2 million medical aspirants across the country. The examination was canceled after allegations emerged that examination papers had been circulated through a WhatsApp network. The investigation led to arrests by the Central Bureau of Investigation, prompting authorities to schedule a re-examination on June 21.

At the same time, concerns have intensified over delays affecting CBSE Class 12 students after the board’s verification portal reportedly experienced technical failures beyond the stipulated deadline. The disruption has left many students facing uncertainty as college admission processes continue.

The campaign has been strongly amplified by the satirical organization Cockroach Janta Party, which claims a social media following of 22 million on Instagram. The movement has also gathered significant public support, with a petition reportedly attracting nearly 800,000 signatures demanding accountability.

A public demonstration is scheduled for June 6 at Jantar Mantar, where Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke is expected to lead the protest. The campaign has received additional backing from social activist Anjali Damania, while opposition political parties have also intensified calls for accountability over the examination-related controversies.

Wangchuk’s endorsement has added further visibility to a movement that combines public frustration over examination integrity and administrative delays. As the re-examination date approaches and concerns over student futures continue to dominate public discourse, the demand for accountability within the education system is gaining increasing national attention.
