Retired Judge Giribala Singh, Son Sent to 14-Day Judicial Custody in Twisha Sharma Death Case Amid Courtroom Confrontation

Retired judge Giribala Singh and her son Samarth Singh have been sent to 14 days of judicial custody in the Twisha Sharma death case. The Bhopal court hearing witnessed dramatic confrontations, allegations of assault, questions over alleged shelter for a fugitive, criticism of media coverage, and continued scrutiny by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Bhopal: In a dramatic development in the high-profile Twisha Sharma death case, retired judge Giribala Singh and her son, Samarth Singh, were sent to 14 days of judicial custody by a Bhopal court on Tuesday after an intense hearing marked by heated exchanges, serious allegations, and courtroom confrontations.

The two accused, who face allegations of dowry harassment raised by Twisha Sharma's family, were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Bhopal following the completion of their police remand. As the Central Bureau of Investigation did not seek any further extension of police custody, the court ordered that both be lodged in Bhopal Central Jail until June 16.

According to sources, Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh will be housed separately from other inmates because of security concerns and the sensitive nature of the case.

The hearing witnessed extraordinary scenes when the 63-year-old retired judge chose to argue her own case before the court. Witnesses present during the proceedings described her as visibly agitated, repeatedly raising her voice while presenting her arguments.

During the hearing, Giribala Singh levelled a series of allegations, including a claim that Twisha Sharma's counsel, Anurag Srivastava, had assaulted her son within the premises of the Jabalpur High Court.

The allegation prompted an immediate response from Srivastava, who challenged the claim and called for verification through surveillance footage. He argued that if such an incident had occurred, the extensive camera coverage throughout the court premises would provide clear evidence and establish the facts.

The confrontation intensified further when Srivastava raised another serious question before the court regarding Samarth Singh's alleged presence inside the chamber of the Principal District and Sessions Judge in Jabalpur. Referring to allegations that Samarth Singh had been evading arrest and carried a reward of Rs 30,000, Srivastava questioned how an individual facing such circumstances could have obtained shelter there. He asserted that the matter itself warranted an independent investigation.

In response, Samarth Singh's legal team defended his actions, arguing that every citizen has the right to seek protection if confronted with threats to personal safety.

As accusations and counter-accusations continued from both sides, the atmosphere inside the courtroom became increasingly tense. According to individuals present during the proceedings, the confrontation at one stage nearly escalated into a physical altercation.

Giribala Singh also criticised what she described as a media trial surrounding the case. Addressing the court, she stated that media personnel continued to follow her and her family wherever they went and claimed that their lives were in danger.

The retired judge further questioned the manner in which investigators conducted the crime scene reconstruction. She objected to being made to disembark several houses away from her residence rather than being transported directly to the property during the investigative exercise.

She also distanced herself from the controversial closed-circuit television footage that emerged publicly after Twisha Sharma's death. Referring to the video that allegedly captured moments following the incident, Giribala Singh stated that she had no knowledge of who had leaked the footage.

Amid the escalating exchanges between the opposing sides, the Central Bureau of Investigation maintained a restrained position before the court. The agency informed the magistrate that it was seeking only judicial custody at this stage while reserving the right to request further police remand in the future if investigative requirements demanded it.

The court's decision to place Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh in judicial custody marks another significant development in the Twisha Sharma death case, which continues to generate intense legal scrutiny, public attention, and allegations from multiple sides as investigators pursue further inquiries.
