The announcement was made during a press conference held on June 1, 2026, at the Ramaiah Institute of Science and Management in Bengaluru. Addressing the gathering, Dr. M. R. Jayaram, Chairman and Trustee of Gokula Education Foundation (Medical) and Chancellor of RISM, outlined the institution’s vision of preparing students for global knowledge environments rather than relying solely on traditional educational approaches.
Building upon more than six decades of excellence in education, research, and healthcare established by the Ramaiah Group, RISM will offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes across engineering, business, and science disciplines. Initial academic offerings will include Bachelor of Technology programmes in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Aerospace Engineering, and Electrical Sciences, alongside Bachelor of Business Administration in Technology Management and Master of Business Administration programmes.
The university’s academic framework has been designed around co-created curricula developed in collaboration with industry and academic partners. It integrates interdisciplinary learning, industry-sponsored Centres of Excellence, internships, live projects, and multi-year capstone assignments. A distinctive feature of the institution will be its three-year capstone experience beginning in the second year of study, enabling students to engage in practical problem-solving and applied innovation throughout their academic journey.
The institution’s guiding philosophy, “Build. The Future.”, is embedded across its curriculum and campus culture. Academic programmes will follow an integrated business- and management-led design that emphasizes applied learning and measurable outcomes from the first day of study. Every course will include direct industry exposure, while students will work closely with Mentor Professors—senior industry leaders appointed as formal faculty members in a first-of-its-kind model. Translational research will form the foundation of the academic structure, ensuring that knowledge generated within the university contributes directly to societal advancement and practical innovation.
RISM’s School of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence will prepare students to operate at the forefront of technological transformation by providing strong foundations in programming, algorithms, and data sciences, combined with practical exposure to machine learning, automation, and human-robot interaction. The School of Aerospace Engineering will offer comprehensive education across aeronautical and astronautical disciplines, including flight systems, spacecraft design, satellite technologies, and space exploration. The School of Business will focus on analytical, managerial, and strategic competencies, supported by industry-sponsored learning centres that provide students with early engagement in real-world business challenges.
University officials stated that a defining characteristic of RISM will be its ability to integrate engineering, technology, science, and management disciplines within a globally connected and industry-embedded ecosystem. Through its knowledge partnership with the University at Albany, students will benefit from year-abroad opportunities, immersive learning experiences, and corporate-sponsored Centres of Excellence, enabling them to apply interdisciplinary thinking to complex real-world challenges.
The university’s primary residential campus is being developed within Bengaluru’s Information Technology Investment Region near Devanahalli. The strategic location places the institution close to major industrial and innovation hubs, including the Aerospace Park, Special Economic Zone, Global Financial District, and the upcoming Foxconn facility. University authorities believe this proximity will strengthen industry-academia collaboration, particularly across Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics disciplines.
Academic operations are scheduled to commence in August 2026 from a transit campus located in Yelahanka. The main residential campus is expected to become fully operational by September 2028.
All academic programmes at RISM will follow a fully residential model designed to support comprehensive student development. In addition to classroom learning, students will participate in structured sports activities, cultural programmes, wellness initiatives, leadership development opportunities, and entrepreneurship support systems intended to create a holistic educational experience.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Jayaram emphasized that India requires higher education institutions capable of preparing students for global knowledge economies. He stated that RISM would focus uniquely on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Management disciplines while providing rigorous foundational science education and industry-integrated capstone projects based on the principle that practical engagement is central to effective learning.
“Our vision is to make RISM a truly distinct learning institution that delivers a globally benchmarked curriculum and resources. We aim to enable students to acquire critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are transferable across technology, science, and management domains and meet the needs of modern enterprises,” Dr. Jayaram said.
The press conference was also attended by Dr. N. D. Gangadhar, Dean of the Governing Board and education expert; Dr. B. N. Raghunandan, former Dean of Aerospace Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science and Chairman of RISM; Gurucharan Gollakeri, Executive Director and Chief Strategy Officer; and J. D. Desai, Registrar of RISM.
Highlighting the institution’s long-term vision, Gurucharan Gollakeri stated that the Ramaiah Institute of Science and Management, established through collaboration between the University at Albany and the Ramaiah Group, is expected to emerge as a unique deemed university in the country equipped with modern facilities and designed as a next-generation centre for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Management education.
The launch of RISM marks a significant milestone in India’s evolving higher education landscape. By combining global academic partnerships, industry-driven learning, translational research, and interdisciplinary education within a fully residential environment, the institution seeks to create a new benchmark for preparing future leaders, innovators, and technology professionals capable of addressing the challenges of the coming decade.
