Firozabad Councillor Steps Into Sewage-Filled Water to Protest Damaged Pipeline, Raises Questions Over Municipal Corporation Response
A Firozabad councillor staged a striking protest by entering sewage-filled water in Sudama Nagar’s Ward No. 20, highlighting a damaged pipeline issue ignored for days. The incident occurred as Mayor Kamini Rathore inspected development works, sparking widespread criticism of municipal inaction and raising concerns over public safety and collapsing house structures in the area.
Residents of Sudama Nagar have been facing severe inconvenience for several days due to a damaged water pipeline. Continuous leakage has led to extensive waterlogging on the streets, severely disrupting daily life. According to local residents, the persistent seepage has also caused cracks in several houses, with some structures reportedly nearing collapse due to prolonged exposure to water damage.
Councillor Manoj Shankhwar alleged that he had repeatedly contacted municipal corporation officials demanding the installation of a new pipeline and urgent repair of the existing damaged line. However, he claimed that no action was taken despite multiple complaints. In response to the continued negligence, he decided to stage a direct protest by entering the sewage-filled waterlogged area.
During the protest, people present at the site attempted to stop him, warning that the water contained worms and posed serious health risks. However, Shankhwar remained firm and responded, “My public is forced to drink this water, so why should I fear entering it.”
His act of protest left nearby residents shocked, while many locals praised his gesture, stating that it was the first time a public representative had physically experienced the hardships faced by citizens in such a manner. The incident has intensified scrutiny of the municipal corporation’s functioning and raised serious questions about administrative responsiveness.
Local residents have demanded immediate resolution of the issue to prevent further structural damage and avoid the risk of a major disaster in the area. The incident has now become a focal point of public debate over civic accountability and infrastructure maintenance in Firozabad.
