Adani Logistics Launches Dedicated Reefer Train Service from Gujarat to Mundra Port to Boost Frozen Food Exports

The inaugural train service was flagged off on Thursday for HyFun Foods, one of India’s leading frozen food exporters, under a strategic partnership with Evergreen Marine Corporation. The new rail corridor is expected to significantly strengthen Gujarat’s food processing ecosystem by enabling faster, more efficient export movement of frozen food products to international markets.

The 320-kilometre rail route will transport frozen goods from ICD Virochannagar to Mundra Port before onward shipment to countries including Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Indonesia. The products handled through this corridor are supplied to globally recognised food brands such as KFC, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Seven Eleven, Subway, IKEA, and Taco Bell.

Officials stated that the collaboration is designed to combine export efficiency, cargo reliability, and sustainability, particularly at a time when India’s processed food exports are expanding rapidly across global markets. The dedicated service is expected to enhance cold chain integrity while supporting high-value temperature-sensitive cargo.

Located in proximity to major industrial zones including Sanand, Viramgam, and Kadi, ICD Virochannagar has developed into a key multimodal logistics hub, offering integrated rail infrastructure, warehousing facilities, and direct port connectivity. The depot links exporters not only to Mundra and Pipavav ports but also supports domestic cargo movement to states including West Bengal, Tripura, and Assam.

According to company data, the facility has an annual handling capacity of 92,400 twenty-foot equivalent units, along with an upcoming Grade-A logistics and industrial park spanning approximately 0.66 million square feet.

Officials further noted that the dedicated rail corridor is expected to reduce transit time, lower logistics costs, and minimise spoilage during transportation. The shift from road-based transport to rail-based cold chain logistics is also projected to reduce carbon emissions associated with cargo movement.

Rail-based refrigerated transport is recognised for improving delivery efficiency of temperature-sensitive goods by reducing travel time, lowering operational costs, and ensuring safer handling of perishable exports. The new initiative is expected to strengthen India’s cold chain logistics capabilities and support the continued expansion of its processed food export sector.
