The incident took place at the MJ Fitness Centre and involved two men identified as Keerthan and Varun. According to reports, the altercation began after Keerthan accidentally brushed against Varun’s shoulder while exercising inside the gym.
A video of the incident captured the tense moments leading up to the assault. The footage showed Keerthan brushing past Varun’s shoulder, following which the two briefly confronted each other inside the fitness centre. During the exchange, Varun suddenly delivered a powerful punch with his right hand, striking Keerthan and knocking him face-first onto the floor.
The impact of the fall caused severe head and facial injuries to Keerthan. He suffered a skull fracture and multiple facial bone fractures and was immediately shifted to a private hospital in Hassan, where he remains under treatment in serious condition.
Speaking about the victim’s medical condition, Dr Bashir said the injured man was admitted to Janapriya Hospital at around 8 pm on Tuesday after sustaining injuries in the fight.
“When he arrived, he was only slightly conscious and had injuries around his head. We checked his blood pressure and provided the required treatment,” the doctor said.
Dr Bashir further stated that medical examinations and scans revealed extensive facial damage.
“We conducted a head scan and found multiple fractures on his face. At least four to five facial bones were fractured. He was also examined by a neurosurgeon and given stitches on his face. Some facial bones had caved in, and doctors have advised further treatment. The patient is stable,” he added.
The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Hassan Extension Police Station. Police confirmed that a complaint has been filed in connection with the assault and that an investigation into the incident has been launched.
