Kim Jong-un Reportedly Makes Surprise China Visit via Newly Opened Border Bridge
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has reportedly arrived in China through the newly opened New Yalu River Bridge in Dandong. The visit comes as US President Donald Trump seeks to resume dialogue with Pyongyang before year-end.
According to the source, Kim arrived in Dandong, located in China’s northeastern Liaoning province, via the New Yalu River Bridge. The reported visit would mark his first trip to China in more than a year.
The bridge, which connects North Korea’s Sinuiju with China’s Dandong, officially opened on October 15, more than a decade after its completion in 2014.
The reported visit comes as US President Donald Trump seeks to resume dialogue with North Korea before the end of the year, ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Shenzhen.
Kim’s reported arrival through the newly opened crossing comes amid efforts to restart dialogue between Washington and Pyongyang, placing renewed attention on developments involving North Korea, China and the United States.
