IRCTC Partners with QCI to Strengthen Food Safety and Hygiene Checks on Trains
IRCTC has signed an MoU with the Quality Council of India to strengthen food safety and hygiene across railway catering units. Find out how unannounced audits, certified inspectors and regulatory checks will shape the initiative.
Under the agreement, an independent third-party audit mechanism will be established to monitor food safety and hygiene across all IRCTC-managed mobile and static catering units. The initiative is designed to ensure that meals served to passengers meet stringent safety and hygiene requirements.
Indian Railways said QCI will deploy certified professionals to conduct rigorous, unannounced quarterly and half-yearly inspection cycles under the strategic alliance. These inspections will focus on enforcing compliance with statutory regulations prescribed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), along with international culinary standards.
The MoU introduces a structured system of independent monitoring intended to improve transparency and accountability in railway catering operations. By combining technology-driven processes with third-party assessments, the partnership seeks to strengthen oversight of food preparation and service across IRCTC-managed catering units.
The agreement marks a move towards a more transparent, passenger-focused approach to railway catering, with an emphasis on ensuring that every meal served on Indian Railways aligns with stringent food safety and health protocols. The inspection mechanism will place independent assessments at the centre of efforts to maintain hygiene and safety standards across the catering network.
