Delhi Government Prepares Modern State Disaster Response Force for Emergencies

Delhi government prepares a modern State Disaster Emergency Response Force after the Satya Niketan PG collapse, focusing on faster disaster response, rescue operations and action against unsafe buildings.

The Delhi government has begun preparations to establish a strong and modern State Disaster Emergency Response Force to minimise loss of life and property during disasters, where delays in relief and rescue operations can worsen the impact. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta discussed the proposal during a meeting with senior National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) officials at the Delhi Secretariat.

The Delhi government aims to develop a trained, capable and rapid-response system that can effectively handle any disaster or emergency situation. The government believes that timely relief and rescue operations can help save several lives.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Delhi to the entire NDRF team for its prompt, courageous and coordinated response during the rescue and relief operation following the PG building collapse in Satya Niketan. Five students and two workers were killed in the Satya Niketan incident, while seven people were injured.

The Delhi government is also continuing action against dilapidated and illegal buildings on its directions. In this context, emphasis is being placed on developing a modern and capable state-level response mechanism to ensure effective relief and rescue operations during disasters.
