Para Veteran Colonel Anurag Upadhyay Seeks Neuro Experts After Devastating Stroke

Para veteran Colonel Anurag Upadhyay is seeking neuro experts after a 2025 stroke caused Locked-in Syndrome and bilateral amputations, with his family exploring rehabilitation and brain-computer interface options.

 

Para Special Forces veteran Colonel Anurag Upadhyay is seeking help from neuro experts and rehabilitation specialists after suffering a posterior circulation stroke in August 2025 that led to Locked-in Syndrome and bilateral below-knee amputations.

The veteran had volunteered for elite units during his service and had previously recovered from a heart attack in 2008. Following the stroke in August 2025, his condition resulted in Locked-in Syndrome, while both his legs were amputated below the knee.

Colonel Upadhyay now communicates through eye movements. His family, fellow soldiers and supporters are seeking connections with neurologists, rehabilitation centres, brain-computer interface experts and veteran networks to explore what further possibilities may remain for his recovery and communication.

The appeal has been shared by Major Surendra Poonia and others, bringing attention to Colonel Upadhyay's condition and the search for specialised neurological and rehabilitation support.
