Severe Power Outages in Navi Mumbai Trigger Public Anger; Residents Storm MSEDCL Office in Kamothe
Residents of Navi Mumbai’s Ulwe and Kamothe areas face severe, repeated electricity outages amid extreme heat. Public anger erupts as citizens protest outside MSEDCL office, block roads near Kamothe Police Station, and demand immediate action against officials for unannounced power cuts disrupting daily life and sleep.
In Ulwe, residents have been facing severe and repeated power cuts over the past several days. Electricity is reportedly being disrupted at any hour, both during the day and at night, leaving residents unable to find relief from the oppressive heat or sleep peacefully. The situation has caused significant distress among working individuals. A video of a working woman expressing her anguish has gone viral on social media, in which she breaks down emotionally while describing her ordeal. She stated that she has not been able to sleep properly for a week and is required to leave for work daily at 6 a.m., adding that the ongoing situation has become mentally unbearable.
Meanwhile, in Kamothe, similar disruptions during nighttime hours have led to widespread frustration among residents. On Monday, 8 June, the situation escalated when thousands of affected citizens gathered outside the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) office and laid siege to the premises, raising strong slogans against what they described as a severely inadequate power supply system. The demonstration quickly turned tense, prompting authorities to deploy a large police contingent from Kamothe Police Station to maintain law and order.
As tensions continued to rise, agitated protesters blocked a major intersection in front of Kamothe Police Station, demanding an immediate end to unscheduled power cuts and strict action against negligent officials responsible for the crisis. Protesters warned that their agitation would continue until concrete action is taken to resolve the ongoing electricity disruptions.
The escalating unrest highlights the growing strain on urban infrastructure in Navi Mumbai, with repeated power failures now triggering widespread public anger and organized protests against the electricity distribution system.
