INDIA Bloc Demands Action on Electoral Roll Revision, Seeks Education Minister’s Resignation

Leaders of 25 opposition parties under the INDIA bloc met in New Delhi and decided to approach the Chief Justice of India over electoral roll revision concerns while demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-CBSE controversy. The alliance also sought an all-party meeting on economic issues and announced regular coordination meetings.

New Delhi: Leaders of 25 opposition parties under the INDIA bloc convened in New Delhi on Monday and reached a consensus on a series of political and public policy issues, including concerns over electoral roll revision, examination controversies, economic challenges, and coordination among opposition parties ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced that the opposition alliance had decided to send a letter to the Chief Justice of India regarding concerns related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and allegations of electoral manipulation. He stated that the letter would be submitted to the Chief Justice in the near future.

Kharge said representatives of all 25 participating parties expressed their views during the meeting and unanimously agreed on five key issues. He noted that the opposition parties had collectively resolved to raise concerns over what they described as irregularities linked to the electoral process.

The INDIA bloc also unanimously demanded the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, holding him responsible for what the alliance termed a betrayal of millions of students who appeared in the NEET and CBSE examinations. Opposition leaders alleged that the examination-related controversies had severely affected the interests and confidence of young aspirants across the country.

The leaders further urged the Union government to immediately convene an all-party meeting to discuss what they described as the country’s precarious economic situation. According to Kharge, the opposition seeks discussions on unemployment, rising prices, issues affecting farmers, and concerns related to the welfare of oppressed sections of society.

Senior leaders from several opposition parties attended the meeting, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Trinamool Congress president Mamata Banerjee, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, and Nationalist Congress Party–Sharadchandra Pawar faction leader Supriya Sule. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Hemant Soren participated virtually.

The meeting underscored the opposition alliance’s effort to present a united position on electoral issues, examination controversies, economic challenges, and parliamentary coordination as it prepares for key political engagements in the coming months.
