The BCCI has announced India’s 16-member T20I squad for the England and Ireland tours, naming Shreyas Iyer as the new captain and Tilak Varma as vice-captain. Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryvanshi earned his first national call-up after a stellar IPL 2026 season, while Prince Yadav also secured a place in the squad.
In a significant leadership change ahead of a busy international schedule, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced a 16-member Indian T20 International squad for the upcoming tours of England and Ireland. Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as India’s new T20I captain, replacing Suryakumar Yadav, while Tilak Varma has been named vice-captain.
The squad announcement also marked a major milestone for teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryvanshi, who has received his maiden call-up to the senior national team following a remarkable Indian Premier League 2026 campaign. Sooryvanshi emerged as the highest run-scorer of the season, earning national recognition for his outstanding performances. Prince Yadav has also been included in the squad.
The decision was finalized during a meeting of the Indian men’s selection committee held at the BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai on Saturday. The meeting was led by Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia.
Apart from finalizing the squad for the England and Ireland tours, the selection committee also discussed preparations for India’s participation in the Asian Games 2026 in Japan and India A’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka for multi-day matches.
The announcement signals the beginning of a new chapter in India’s T20 setup under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, while the inclusion of emerging talents such as Vaibhav Sooryvanshi and Prince Yadav highlights the selectors’ focus on building a strong and dynamic squad for future international challenges
