Galgotias University Hosts International Conference on Comparative Law, Bringing Global Legal Experts Together

Galgotias University, in partnership with Edith Cowan University, Australia, hosted the International Conference on Comparative Law 2026, bringing together Supreme Court and High Court judges, globally renowned legal scholars, policymakers, academicians, and practitioners to discuss constitutional governance, human rights, business regulation, technology, arbitration, and international legal frameworks.

 

Galgotias University, in collaboration with the School of Business and Law at Edith Cowan University, Australia, convened an influential gathering of judges, legal scholars, policymakers, vice-chancellors, academicians, and legal practitioners from India and across the world during the International Conference on Comparative Law held on May 29 and 30, 2026. The conference emerged as a significant platform for global legal dialogue, academic exchange, and discussions on the evolving challenges facing legal systems worldwide.

The conference focused on the growing importance of comparative law in understanding how different legal systems address common global issues related to constitutional governance, human rights, business regulation, intellectual property, arbitration, technology, and international legal frameworks. Deliberations examined how comparative legal scholarship can assist institutions, policymakers, and legal professionals in navigating evolving judicial systems, cross-border legal disputes, and emerging regulatory challenges in an increasingly interconnected world.

A major highlight of the conference was the participation of distinguished members of the Indian judiciary. The event was attended by Justice Rajesh Bindal, Judge of the Supreme Court of India; Justice Tejas Karia, Judge of the Delhi High Court; Justice Shubhash Vidyarthi, Judge of the Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench; Justice JR Midha, Former Judge of the Delhi High Court; and Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, Former Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.

Addressing the gathering, Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh commended Galgotias University for establishing an international academic platform that brought together legal scholars, members of the judiciary, academic leaders, and institutions from various countries for meaningful discussions on law, justice, governance, and contemporary legal developments.

The conference also featured renowned legal scholars from around the world, including Professor Upendra Baxi of the University of Warwick, United Kingdom, whose contributions to constitutionalism, human rights, and law in development have significantly influenced global legal thought.

Participants and speakers represented institutions from India, the United Kingdom, Italy, Brazil, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Macedonia, Australia, and several other countries, highlighting the expanding international engagement in comparative legal scholarship and academic collaboration.

Prominent international speakers included Professor Mauro Bussani of the University of Trieste and the University of Macau, Professor Giuseppe Martinico of Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, Pisa, Professor Renata Deskoska of Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Macedonia, Professor Shamini K. Ragavan of the University of Birmingham Dubai, Professor Muhammad Ekramul Haque of the University of Dhaka, Professor Indira Nanayakkara of the University of Colombo, and Dr. Oyeniyi Abe, Chair of the Committee on Business and Human Rights, International Law Association, Nigeria.

The conference commenced with opening remarks by Professor Aditya Tomer, Dean of the School of Law at Galgotias University. Dr. Joshua N Aston, Associate Dean and Conference Co-Chair from Edith Cowan University, Australia, emphasized the importance of comparative legal understanding and international academic collaboration in contemporary legal education.

As part of the conference proceedings, Galgotias University formalized several institutional partnerships through Memorandums of Understanding signed with Dharmashastra National Law University, National Law University Assam, Study In, and Bein Legal Partners. These collaborations are intended to strengthen legal education, research initiatives, academic exchange programs, and industry engagement.

Dr. Dhruv Galgotia, Chief Executive Officer of Galgotias University, stated that the participation of distinguished judges, globally respected legal scholars, and academic leaders created an important forum for discussions on comparative law and contemporary legal challenges. He emphasized that the university is committed to building an internationally engaged law school connected to global legal developments, interdisciplinary learning, and international academic engagement, while providing students and researchers with exposure to diverse legal systems and judicial perspectives.

The valedictory session featured addresses by Justice Rajesh Bindal, Judge of the Supreme Court of India; Justice Tejas Karia, Judge of the Delhi High Court; Lalit Bhasin, President of the Society of Indian Law Firms; and several other distinguished members of the judiciary and legal fraternity.

The conference also included academic paper presentations, keynote discussions, the release of the conference abstract book, and the announcement of the Best Paper Awards for ICCL 2026.

Organized by the School of Law at Galgotias University, the conference further strengthened the institution’s growing leadership in comparative law, international legal discourse, and globally connected legal education through the participation of eminent judges, legal scholars, academic leaders, and institutions from India and numerous countries worldwide.
