JSW MG Motor India Crosses 1,000 Community EV Chargers, Marks Major Sustainability Milestone on World Environment Day

JSW MG Motor India marked World Environment Day by announcing the installation of 1,000 community EV chargers across more than 470 locations nationwide. The company also revealed that its electric vehicles have covered over 290 crore green kilometres, contributing to significant carbon emission reductions while advancing renewable energy, water conservation, and sustainable manufacturing initiatives at its Halol facility.

 

On the occasion of World Environment Day, JSW MG Motor India announced a major milestone in India's electric mobility landscape, revealing that it has installed 1,000 community chargers under its MG Charge initiative across more than 470 locations nationwide. With this achievement, the company has become the first original equipment manufacturer in India to establish electric vehicle community charging infrastructure at such a large scale.

The charging network has been deployed across a diverse range of locations, including residential societies, condominiums, hospitals, educational campuses, hotels, and industrial parks, significantly strengthening the country's electric vehicle ecosystem and improving charging accessibility for consumers.

In another significant achievement, JSW MG Motor India stated that its electric vehicles have cumulatively travelled more than 290 crore green kilometres on Indian roads. According to the company, this has contributed to saving approximately 4.17 lakh metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, underscoring the growing environmental impact of electric mobility adoption in the country.

The company also outlined its future growth strategy, announcing plans for an aggressive product expansion in calendar year 2026. Three new New Energy Vehicles are scheduled for launch, including the company's introduction of plug-in hybrid technology. JSW MG Motor India emphasized that India's sustainability journey can be accelerated through the adoption of multiple clean mobility technologies.

At its manufacturing facility in Halol, the company continues to advance sustainability-focused operations. More than 78 percent of the plant's energy consumption is sourced from renewable energy, resulting in savings of over 9,300 metric tons of carbon emissions. Nearly 95 percent of the facility's total power requirements are currently met through renewable energy sources.

The company has also reduced water consumption at the Halol plant by 23 percent through process optimization measures and the reuse of recycled water. Additionally, Industry 4.0 technologies, including digitization and Internet of Things-based solutions, have been integrated into operations to support decarbonization efforts and improve energy efficiency.

Further strengthening its environmental commitment, the Halol facility operates a Zero External Discharge Plant that utilizes 100 percent treated water. Cleaner fuel in the form of piped natural gas is used across all manufacturing processes. The facility has expanded its green cover with the plantation of more than 11,000 trees and has achieved Zero Waste to Landfill certification at Gold Maturity level.

The manufacturing unit is also equipped with a bio-composting machine for canteen waste management and a garden waste biogas plant for processing organic waste. As part of its biodiversity initiatives, the company has developed a Miyawaki forest comprising 5,700 plants and established 21 recharge wells to support water conservation.

The achievements announced on World Environment Day highlight JSW MG Motor India's growing role in advancing sustainable mobility, renewable energy adoption, resource conservation, and environmentally responsible manufacturing practices in India while reinforcing its long-term commitment to a cleaner and greener future.
