According to police, the teenager left her residence with a large amount of cash and subsequently travelled to Thane, where she allegedly purchased a mobile phone, clothes, and a SIM card. Investigators believe these purchases were made following instructions received from individuals she had been communicating with online.
The search operation gained momentum after police uncovered crucial digital evidence. Officers traced the teenager through an old gaming account that she allegedly continued using after leaving home. Another significant breakthrough came from a photograph reportedly shared during her journey, which helped investigators establish her travel route and movements.
Following the digital trail, Mumbai Police coordinated with Gujarat Police and launched an intensive search along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway. Teams checked dozens of buses operating on the route in an effort to locate the missing student.
The operation ended successfully when officers identified the teenager travelling alone on a Rajasthan-bound bus. She was traced and rescued before reaching her destination, bringing an end to the interstate hunt.
Police Sub-Inspector Prashant Nerkar said investigators could not rule out the possibility of exploitation, considering the girl's age, the substantial amount of cash she was carrying, and the nature of her travel route. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the role of her online contacts and whether any individuals attempted to influence or exploit her.
The case has highlighted the growing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in tracking digitally connected disappearances, where online interactions, social media communication, and virtual networks can rapidly influence vulnerable young individuals and complicate search operations across multiple states.
