Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Meteoric Rise: Coach Calls Teen Sensation ‘God’s Child’ After India Call-Up
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi earns his maiden India call-up after a record-breaking season featuring 776 runs, 72 sixes, and explosive IPL playoff performances. Coach Manish Ojha calls him a “divine gift” while Shubman Gill praises his exceptional talent, marking a major breakthrough in Indian cricket’s new generation.
Emotional after the selection, Ojha recalled the moment Sooryavanshi joined his academy and credited the player’s father, Sanjeev Sooryavanshi, for placing trust in him. He said he considers the young batter’s success beyond ordinary sporting development, stating that his entry into coaching recognition in Bihar came only because of the teenager’s emergence.
Ojha highlighted the broader significance of Sooryavanshi’s rise, noting that Bihar is often associated with its historical legacy, including the Maurya Empire, Gupta Empire, Buddhism, Jainism, Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran movement, and the JP Movement. He added that in modern times the region has frequently been in the news for negative reasons, but the young cricketer has begun changing that narrative through his performances.
The coach further said that Sooryavanshi has drawn admiration from some of the greatest names in cricket, including Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. He quoted praise comparing the youngster’s impact to overcoming opposition with extraordinary dominance, reflecting the growing national attention around his talent.
On the field, Sooryavanshi has delivered a record-breaking season, scoring 776 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 237.30, alongside 72 sixes. His explosive batting included a near miss of the fastest century in Indian Premier League history. He also produced two standout knocks in the playoffs, scoring 29-ball 97 against Sunrisers Hyderabad and 47-ball 96 against Gujarat Titans.
Ojha described him as a “big-match player,” highlighting performances in high-pressure matches, including the Under-19 World Cup final. He added that the selection decision for the national squad was fully justified and said the teenager’s journey is only beginning.
According to the coach, Sooryavanshi is a quick learner who prepares in his own manner, focusing on self-study and match awareness rather than formal video analysis sessions. He emphasized that this independent preparation has helped him maintain an aggressive yet controlled batting approach against top-level bowlers.
Indian Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill also praised the young batter’s extraordinary season. Gill described him as one of the most remarkable batters in modern cricket, noting his ability to combine power hitting with technical efficiency and exceptional hand speed. He further stated that Sooryavanshi’s composure during challenging phases of play reflects a strong competitive mindset and suggested that future opponents will find him extremely difficult to contain.
With his rapid rise from domestic cricket to the national setup, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s selection marks one of the most significant breakthroughs in recent Indian cricket, signaling the arrival of a new generation talent poised to make a major impact on the international stage.
