A devastating fire in Malviya Nagar, Delhi killed 20 people and injured several others, while 37 were rescued. PM Narendra Modi announced compensation for victims’ families. Foreign nationals were also present and hospitalized. The building, permitted for 6 rooms, was operating with 25 rooms, raising serious safety concerns and regulatory questions.

A devastating fire broke out in the Malviya Nagar area of Delhi, resulting in a horrific tragedy that claimed the lives of 20 people on the spot. The incident also led to the rescue of 37 individuals, who were safely evacuated from the affected building as emergency response teams rushed to the site.

According to officials, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the incident. The Prime Minister announced an ex gratia compensation of INR 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased. Additionally, financial assistance of INR 50,000 each was declared for the families of the injured.

At the time of the fire, several foreign nationals were also staying inside the building. They were promptly taken to a hospital for medical treatment following the rescue operation. Authorities confirmed that the blaze created panic, forcing several occupants to jump from the building in a desperate attempt to save their lives.

Preliminary information indicates serious regulatory violations at the site. Although permission had been granted for a six-room establishment, the building was reportedly being operated as a hotel with 25 rooms. This discrepancy has raised questions regarding compliance and oversight by the concerned authorities.
