India, Netherlands Working to Build Resilient and Transparent Global Supply Chains: Modi in The Hague
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the Indian diaspora in The Hague, said India and the Netherlands are collaborating to build reliable, transparent and resilient supply chains amid global crises. He described the current decade as a “decade of disasters” and highlighted India’s rising global role and expanding partnership with the Netherlands.
Speaking to a large gathering of the Indian community in the Netherlands, Modi said humanity is passing through one of the most turbulent periods in recent history, marked by uncertainty, economic stress and persistent disruptions to global stability. He said the international community first faced the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by geopolitical conflicts and mounting energy concerns, creating a chain of crises that continues to challenge nations across the world.
The Prime Minister warned that failure to respond swiftly and collectively could reverse decades of developmental progress and push millions of people back into poverty and economic hardship. He stressed that the consequences of inaction would be severe, particularly for developing nations striving to sustain growth and protect vulnerable populations.
Emphasising the increasing importance of economic resilience, Modi said countries around the world are now prioritising the strengthening of supply networks to ensure stability in trade and industry. In this context, he said India and the Netherlands are collaborating to create supply chains that are secure, trustworthy, transparent and capable of withstanding future global shocks.
Highlighting India’s expanding role on the world stage, the Prime Minister described the country as a land of immense opportunity where technological advancement is guided by human-centric values. He said 21st-century India is emerging as a nation driven equally by innovation and humanity, successfully preserving its ancient civilisational heritage while embracing rapid modernisation.
Modi also underscored the growing strategic, economic and cultural partnership between India and the Netherlands. He noted that the two countries have steadily expanded cooperation across trade, technology, logistics and innovation, reflecting a shared commitment to building stronger bilateral ties and addressing global challenges together.
The Prime Minister’s remarks came during his interaction with the Indian diaspora in the Netherlands, a key engagement in his five-nation overseas visit scheduled from May 15 to May 20. The United Arab Emirates was the first stop of the diplomatic tour, which is aimed at deepening India’s strategic and economic partnerships with important international partners.
Modi’s address in The Hague reinforced India’s vision of a more resilient and cooperative global order, positioning the partnership with the Netherlands as a significant pillar in efforts to secure supply chains, promote economic stability and safeguard development gains in an increasingly uncertain world.
