At a time when India’s urban expansion is accelerating at an unprecedented pace, the real estate sector is witnessing a structural shift toward greater scale, complexity, and accountability. Despite this transformation, structured and industry-aligned education in real estate development and management has remained limited. GREMI has been established to bridge this gap by creating a formal, multidisciplinary talent pipeline aligned with the evolving demands of urban development.
The institute has been conceptualised as part of a broader commitment by Ganesh Housing Limited to contribute beyond real estate development through education and long-term capability building. GREMI is associated with the Mahamati Skill and Education Foundation (MSEF), a not-for-profit organisation registered under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013. The foundation has been envisioned by Shekhar Patel, Director of Ganesh Housing Limited and National President of CREDAI. MSEF operates independently and is funded through associated entities and family trusts.
GREMI will operate from the GREMI City Campus at Million Minds Tech City, enabling direct integration between academic learning and industry exposure. Its academic framework is designed to incorporate key dimensions of the built environment, including development, finance, urban planning, governance, and technology, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of modern real estate decision-making.
Commenting on the milestone, Shekhar Patel stated that India’s real estate sector is entering a phase where urban development demands a more nuanced and future-focused approach. He added that GREMI has been envisioned as a platform to develop professionals with both technical expertise and a holistic understanding of the ecosystem, while AICTE approval marks a significant step toward building a globally aligned institution.
Dr Anil Kashyap, Former Chancellor of NICMAR University and Director General and Chief Executive Officer of GREMI, highlighted that real estate education in India has historically remained unstructured despite the sector’s scale. He stated that GREMI aims to mainstream real estate education, making it a credible and aspirational career path while also fostering research, innovation, and policy engagement in the built environment.
GREMI’s flagship Postgraduate Certificate in Real Estate Development and Management will be introduced with its founding cohort in 2026, comprising approximately 70 students. The institute has also applied to the University Grants Commission for Deemed University status and has proposed the development of a 100-acre integrated teaching, research, and residential leadership campus in Ahmedabad.
