Indian Naval Ship Sunayna Docks at Yangon Harbour Amid High-Level Maritime Diplomacy Between India and Myanmar
Indian Naval Ship Sunayna has arrived at Yangon Harbour, Myanmar, coinciding with the visit of Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi. The deployment reflects India’s MAHASAGAR vision and Neighbourhood First policy, highlighting strengthened maritime cooperation and naval diplomacy between India and Myanmar in the Indian Ocean Region.
The port call coincides with the visit of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, marking a significant moment of strategic alignment between naval diplomacy and high-level leadership engagement. The simultaneous presence of the vessel and the top naval commander highlights India’s focused efforts to deepen bilateral maritime cooperation with Myanmar.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the deployment of Sunayna and its port visit are fully aligned with India’s vision of Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security Across Regions (MAHASAGAR). The initiative reflects India’s broader strategic intent to promote inclusive maritime security and cooperative engagement across the region.
The Ministry further stated that the Indian Navy continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening cooperative maritime partnerships in the Indian Ocean Region, contributing to stability, security, and trust-building among partner nations. The visit also reinforces India’s Neighbourhood First policy, which prioritises enhanced diplomatic, economic, and security cooperation with neighbouring countries.
