Defectors Row Escalates as MPs Meet President Amid Allegations of Political Vendetta in Punjab

This report covers a high-stakes political confrontation in Punjab as Raghav Chadha and three Rajya Sabha MPs meet President Droupadi Murmu alleging targeted action against defectors who joined BJP. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann counters with disqualification demand, while constitutional recognition by Rajya Sabha Chairman intensifies legal dispute ahead of elections.

In a significant political development, Raghav Chadha and three other Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament met President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday, alleging that the Aam Aadmi Party-led government in Punjab has been targeting seven legislators who defected from the Aam Aadmi Party to the Bharatiya Janata Party on April 24.

The delegation claimed that the state administration has initiated a series of retaliatory actions against the defectors. Among the incidents cited was graffiti at the residence of former cricketer Harbhajan Singh, describing him as a traitor. They also alleged that a factory owned by industrialist Rajinder Gupta was subjected to a raid, alongside First Information Reports registered against Sandeep Pathak.

In response to these allegations, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also met the President, urging that the defectors be disqualified on the grounds of having violated the electoral mandate. The Chief Minister maintained that all investigative actions undertaken by the state followed established legal procedures and due process.

Separately, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has acknowledged the merger under provisions of the anti-defection law, a move that has further intensified the political confrontation between the parties involved.
