Ritual Prayers Mark Kickoff of Preparations for 2025–26 Magh Mela at Prayagraj’s Sangam

Preparations for the 2025–26 Magh Mela in Prayagraj began with a ceremonial Ganga Puja at the Sangam, led by Divisional Commissioner Soumya Agrawal. Senior officials, including the CP and DM, marked the launch of planning efforts as land allocation for Dandi Baada began. The Mela will run until Mahashivratri on 15 February.

The preparations for the 2025–26 Magh Mela began in Prayagraj with a ceremonial Ganga worship at the Sangam Nose, symbolically invoking a smooth and successful conduct of the annual spiritual fair. Senior administrative officials gathered at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Sarasvati on Monday, underscoring the significance of the event that draws millions of devotees each year.

Prayagraj Divisional Commissioner Soumya Agrawal led the ritual, performing the traditional Ganga Puja on behalf of the Magh Mela Authority. She was joined by Commissioner of Police Joginder Kumar and District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma, who were present to mark the formal commencement of administrative planning for the massive pilgrimage.

Authorities also confirmed that land allocation for the traditional Dandi Baada—an important akhara settlement area within the Mela township—has commenced, signaling that groundwork activities are now fully underway. With extensive arrangements to be developed for lodging, transport, security, sanitation, and crowd management, officials emphasized that the early start is crucial for ensuring a seamless experience for visitors.

The Magh Mela, one of the largest annual gatherings of faith in India, will continue until Mahashivratri on 15 February. As preparations expand across the riverfront, the ritual launch at the Sangam highlights not only administrative readiness but also the cultural reverence deeply embedded in the event’s traditions, setting the tone for a spiritually charged and operationally robust festival season ahead.
