Opposition INDIA Bloc Stages Protest at Makar Dwar Against BJP’s “Rushed and Undemocratic” SIR Initiative

Opposition leaders from the INDIA bloc held a major protest at Makar Dwar in New Delhi, accusing the BJP of pushing the SIR initiative in a rushed and undemocratic manner. Demonstrators called for the measure’s reconsideration and demanded adherence to established democratic procedures and deliberative norms.

New Delhi — Leaders of the opposition INDIA alliance gathered at Makar Dwar on Tuesday to mount a forceful protest against what they described as a hastily prepared and “undemocratic” SIR measure introduced by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The demonstration drew a significant crowd as senior leaders accused the ruling party of bypassing established democratic procedures while pushing the initiative forward.

According to the protesting leaders, the SIR was advanced without adequate consultation, debate, or scrutiny—steps they argue are fundamental to India’s legislative tradition. Speakers at the site asserted that the government’s approach reflected a disregard for institutional norms and signaled a worrying trend of sidelining deliberative processes.

The INDIA bloc demanded that the government withdraw the measure and subject it to a transparent, inclusive review. They urged the administration to uphold parliamentary conventions and ensure that major policy decisions undergo proper evaluation before implementation.

As the demonstration concluded, alliance leaders emphasized that their protest was not merely a political stance but a call to safeguard democratic values. They underscored that any policy enacted without due process could set a precedent with serious implications for governance and public accountability in the future.
