The Union Health Ministry has achieved all targets under Special Campaign 6, clearing over 1.20 lakh physical files and reclaiming 5.82 lakh sq ft. Find out how the October campaign transformed records management.
Special Campaign 6 covered 1,62,325 sites across the Department of Health and Family Welfare, including central government hospitals, attached and subordinate offices, autonomous bodies and central public sector undertakings.
During the campaign, the ministry disposed of 12,840 public grievances and 6,026 associated appeals. It also addressed 119 references received from Members of Parliament (MPs), according to an official ministry statement.
As part of efforts to reduce administrative pendency and streamline procedures, the ministry simplified 19 rules and processes. The records management exercise involved reviewing 1,25,114 physical files, of which 1,20,115 were weeded out. Additionally, 37,481 electronic files were reviewed, and 32,542 of them were closed.
The exercise resulted in the reclamation of 5,82,449 square feet of office space. The disposal of scrap and electronic waste generated revenue exceeding ₹1 crore while also facilitating the responsible management of obsolete materials.
The campaign focused on institutionalising cleanliness, strengthening records management, reducing pending work and creating cleaner and more efficient working environments across institutions under the health ministry.
Union Health Minister J P Nadda visited AIIMS, Delhi, during the campaign to review cleanliness arrangements, waste management and patient amenities. Minister of State for Health Prataprao Jadhav visited a health check-up camp at Kartavya Bhawan-1, where he interacted with 'safai mitras'. The health secretary also reviewed the progress of the campaign.
Several institutions introduced innovative initiatives during the exercise. At AIIMS Jodhpur, a waste-to-art initiative involved reusing plastic drums and bottles as planters and decorative items carrying anti-tobacco and anti-smoking messages. Lady Hardinge Medical College in New Delhi also organised a waste-to-art activity as part of the campaign.
According to the ministry, achieving 100 per cent of the prescribed targets, with performance exceeding targets across several parameters, reflected its efforts towards efficient, accountable and citizen-centric governance.
The campaign's outcomes included the disposal of more than 1.20 lakh physical files, closure of over 32,500 electronic files, clearance of nearly 5.82 lakh square feet of office space and revenue generation exceeding ₹1 crore.
