US-Designated Global Terrorist Muhammad Sarwar Dies After Falling on Way to Mosque in Pakistan
Muhammad Sarwar, the US-designated global terrorist and Pakistan Markazi Muslim League's Punjab chapter president, died on Sunday after reportedly falling on his way to a mosque in Pakistan. Media reports cite a fatal head injury.
Sarwar had served as a senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander in Lahore for more than a decade. The PMML is the political wing of Jamaat-ud-Dawa, the organisation led by Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the Mumbai terror attacks. Sarwar was considered a close associate of Saeed.
According to a statement issued by the PMML, Sarwar was leaving home to offer prayers at a mosque when he suddenly fell and died. The organisation did not disclose the exact cause of his death. However, media reports said he sustained a head injury after falling down the mosque's stairs, which led to his death.
The incident has drawn attention to the death of a former senior Lashkar-e-Taiba commander who had been designated a global terrorist by Washington.
The United States designated Sarwar and another Lashkar-e-Taiba leader, Shahid Mahmood, as global terrorists in 2016. The action was aimed at dismantling the networks involved in raising funds for Lashkar-e-Taiba and providing assistance to the organisation.
